Está más que claro, a esta altura, que si Los Pumas tienen alguna posibilidad de jugar en el futuro una competencia internacional, será en el Hemisferio Sur y no en el Norte. Allí los colocó el International Rugby Board (IRB), mientras que desde Europa anunciaron, sin eufemismos, que allá no existe ninguna chance para un seleccionado que posee a todos sus rugbiers actuando en esa parte del mundo. ¿Entonces? Se suponía que el camino iba a ser complicado, pero los datos que aparecen a veces lo ponen cerca de lo imposible.
Desde los tres grandes del Sur, el único que apuesta por Los Pumas es Sudáfrica, y por eso arribó la invitación para disputar un test en la primera semana de agosto, en el Ellis Park de Johannesburgo, en conmemoración de los 90 años de Nelson Mandela. Hoy llegará el visto bueno desde Francia para liberar a los argentinos que actúan allá, y la Unión Argentina de Rugby (UAR) lo oficializará mañana tras la reunión de Consejo.
Pero no brindan las mismas señales Australia y Nueva Zelanda, aunque desde el primero surgió la idea de un armar para el 2009 un Pac-Rim, un octogonal que incluiría a los argentinos.
