"El futuro para la Argentina es increíble"

Les Cusworth es un ex – jugador y entrenador del Leicester. Hace algunos años, este inglés de 54 años se radicó en la Argentina (vive en Hurlingham) y participó y participa activamente de las actividades del seleccionado nacional. - ¿Como empezó a interesarse en el rugby?

- Trabajo con Los Pumas hace 6 o 7 años de Technical Advisor (especialista en el análisis de los videos que asiste a los entrenadores). Y mi trabajo era darles apoyo a los entrenadores y también a los jugadores en las técnicas individuales. También trabajaba en la estrategia y hacía análisis de otros equipos. Y ahora soy entrenador hace casi 20 años. Soy director de rugby de la UAR y trabajo en proyectos de alto rendimiento.

- ¿Que opinión le merece la actuación del seleccionado en el último mundial?

- Los Pumas en el mundial de Francia llegaron tras un proceso de 6 años, y no de 6 meses. Donde hubo disciplina, respeto. También había una buena estructura con Loffreda y los otros entrenadores. Un grupo especial de jugadores fantásticos, con muchos “capitans” (sic) como Longo, Ledesma, Contepomi, Pichot. Era un grupo especial.

- ¿Los Pumas tienen nivel para jugar y vencer a los equipos del 3 Naciones?

- Para mi tanto Australia como Nueva Zelanda son muy fuertes. Pero en la copa del mundo los All-Blacks no funcionaron. Los fowards en el scrum y en line estuvieron más o menos. Y no estuvieron tan duros en su juego. Entonces, en mi opinión, Los Pumas contra los All-Blacks pueden controlar la pelota, controlan la posesión, y por ende: los puntos.

- ¿Cuáles son los valores que destaca del rugby?

- Lo que rescato del rugby es que es un juego de equipo, donde las individualidades no importan. Tiene que haber respeto y disciplina, y es un juego para todos jugado por amigos donde hay corazón y pasión. El rugby para mi es lo número uno.

- ¿Que opina del rugby argentino para el futuro?

- El rugby en Argentina es único en el mundo, es especial. Hay 82 equipos jugando en Buenos Aires. El futuro para la Argentina es increíble.

En la sede de la Unión de Rugby de Cuyo se presentó el inglés Les Cusworth, Director de Rugby de la Unión Argentina de Rugby para anunciar la creación del Centro de Alto Rendimiento y Desarrollo (CEDARD).

Cusworth es un especialista en el análisis de videos de los partidos de rugby, colaboró mucho con Los Pumas en el último mundial realizado en Francia, la finalidad de este centro es perfeccionar la infraestructura y la formación de los jugadores, principalmente en las provincias.

“Habrá cinco centros regionales en Argentina, estos se encontrarán en Buenos Aires, Rosario, Tucumán, Córdoba y Mendoza. El primer paso es encontrar un Director para el Centro, será designado mediante una selección, los interesados presentarán sus currículum, se harán anuncios en Mendoza y en la web de la UAR, en los próximos tres meses tenemos que tenerlo designado. Será abierto y transparente. Se necesitará a gente que colabore, que proteja a los clubes, al espíritu amateur.” comentó

“La UAR – prosiguió- va a controlar todo, paso a paso. Este director será rentado, trabajara full-time, la inversión la realizará la Unión Argentina de Rugby. El tercer puesto de Los Pumas en el mundial demuestra la fuerza del rugby en la Argentina, la pasión, el corazón que tienen, que ponen, pero para que siga prosperando hay que ayudarlo con mejores infraestructuras y capacitación, para buscar competir en el alto nivel”.
