La posibilidad de realizar un torneo con los 10 mejores seleccionados del mundo -los tres que juegan el Tres Naciones y los seis del 6 Naciones, más la Argentina- al margen del Mundial, versión que circuló con fuerza durante Francia 2007, ha vuelto a instalarse en el ámbito del rugby. Hay razones poderosas para confiar que se trata de algo bien cierto: 1) La crisis del Hemisferio Sur que obliga a los popes del Sanzar a buscar nuevos horizontes; 2) El achicamiento del calendario internacional después del 2011, algo que fue anunciado por el presidente del IRB, Bernard Lapasset, en su última visita al país; 3) El control practicamente hegemónico que tendrán los clubes a corto plazo y que pondrá en jaque a las ventanas internacionales.

Ya se ha escrito del tema en este blog en varias ocasiones y, ahora, el sitio planetrugby difundió las gestiones que se están llevando a cabo. Este especie de Súper 10 de selecciones podría tener una final en Wembley quizá antes del Mundial del 2011 en Nueva Zelanda, según se supo. Para ello se tomará como globo de ensayo el histórico test que el miércoles 3 de diciembre sostendrán en la remodelada Catedral del Fútbol los Barbarians y los Wallabies, como parte de los festejos del centenario de la obtención de la medalla de oro olímpica de Australasia (así se llamaba en ese entonces) en la final ante Gran Bretaña, en los Juegos que precisamente se disputaron en Londres.

La Argentina también tiene ciertas chances allí, pero el poder económico de países como Japón y los Estados Unidos y la cercanía geográfica de los del Pacífico Sur pueden ganar la carrera para quedarse con esos lugares.

La Sanzar también confirmó que buscará nuevos escenarios para los test de sus seleccionados. El kick-off de este proyecto será en noviembre, con otro hito en el rugby de estos tiempos: el choque All Blacks-Wallabies en la millonaria Hong Kong.
